What's happening...

The last couple weeks have been busy and irritating all at the same time.  On one end there was Put-In-Bay, Ohio which is always a treat after a long summer season.  What's not so much of a treat is an infection problem and finding out that something I've been eating for a little bit might have been the primarily cause of it.  Needless to say, I've been having to kill one thing and TRY to kill another so I've been away from the blog a bit longer than I would've liked to have been.  From this point on, things should get a bit better with that.

There is some good news in all of this though.  I've put my order in for Tom Richmond's new book "The Mad Art of Caricature".  I've seen a couple previews of it and I absolutely can't wait to finally have it in my hands!  It's gonna be a very inspiring book to have around and I look forward to what new insights I gain from it.

Hooters quickie.

She came at me right before I could really get myself situated and wanted me to do a sketch of her.  It was so funny not so much because of the standard size copy paper I was given, but because she handed me a pink Sharpie to do it with.  Weird thing was, they ACTUALLY don't sketch too badly.  Granted you're not going to get the exact same results as one could with a Markette or Chartpak, but it won't be crap either.  Remember, it's the artist more than the medium that makes a picture work.

For a quick sketch it's alright.  As always, there's room for improvement.

Some Howl O' Scream demos

Some are based off of people from older demos, others are based off of previous sold sketches of people.  All of these were very fun though, and allowed me to take some chances on stuff that I usually don't get the opportunity to do when actually trying to sell.  Especially when it comes to putting in ANY sort of emotions onto the subjects in the picture.  In that regard, I'd have to say the fourth one is probably my absolute favorite for it as I think it's the most successful of the group.  It's a shame though, that the color isn't as good as it looks for real.  I'm going to try and fix that and then upload it again as the picture doesn't do it any justice.
